Problem: Laser welding requires weld joints to be precisely positioned in order to optimize weld quality. Custom fixturing adds significant costs and requires expensive engineering hours.
Solution: Northern replaced the weld table that came with the laser welding machine with a modular fixture table. This table allows jobs to be quickly setup and positions the weld joints precisely where the laser expects them to be.
Results: Northern obtains high strength joints with minimal distortion due to heating, a small heat affected zone (HAZ), a narrow weld profile with good appearance, and considerably faster weld rates than traditional welding. |
